Hymns of Reverence is a new series of organ preludes specially written to be played on one manual without pedals. This series of organ preludes particularly focuses on assisting those who play the piano and are transitioning to the organ.
This volume contains ten beautiful hymn arrangements that can be played on a variety of organ types. A person who can play the hymns can play these lovely arrangements. Each number invites a wonderful spirit of reverence.
The piano is a percussive instrument which requires the fingers to strike each key, while the organ requires a smooth, almost gliding fingering. The piano sustain pedal allows the strings to continue to sound after the key is struck and released, while the organ requires the key to be held down in order for sound to be sustained.
The hymn arrangements in this series facilitate development of organ fingering technique with tie notation to suggest where keys could be held down. You may find other notes to tie and even omit some that are given, for it is a personal preference.
Preludes should be played softly to support a spirit of reverence; therefore we have not designated changes in the dynamic markings of these arrangements. We suggest when playing these arrangements not to use a bass coupler.
Hymns of Reverence can be used on either a full organ or a digital piano/organ with one keyboard and no pedals. They can be used for worship services and other occasions such as auxiliary meetings and baptisms, or anywhere organ preludes are desired.
Whether played as prelude to invite the Spirit, or as postlude to reaffirm and extend the spirit of the meeting, these preludes for one manual are easy to do, yet powerful in results.
